Week of December 5, 2016
  • Health: Students took a quiz on the topic of alcohol and problem drinking. When completed, their class assignment was to complete a alcohol webquest and complete a study guide for the upcoming unit test. Hwk: complete webquest and study guide; study for unit test on 12/19
  • PE: We continued our basketball unit by playing a regulation game.

Week of November 28, 2016
  • Health: We went over the various ways that tobacco companies advertise their product: cool image, low tar/light, friends/popularity, good looks/glamorous, dating/social, and tastes good. Students were then asked to find 6 different advertisements showing these selling tactics. Hwk: watch video on Alcohol and Problem Drinking and quiz
  • PE: No class this week due to Parent Teacher Conferences.

Week of November 21, 2016
  • Health: Students took a quiz on the effects of tobacco to the body. Students will be writing an argumentative essay on saying no to tobacco. Students will state their claim and provide 3 reasons to support their claim. Hwk: watch video on Tobacco Ads and quiz
  • PE: No class this week due to Thanksgiving Break.

Week of November 14, 2016
  • Health: Students took a quiz on Drugs and Medicines. Afterwards, they completed worksheets on over the counter vs. prescription drugs. Hwk: watch video on Tobacco and quiz
  • PE: We continued our basketball unit by scrimmaging each other.

Week of November 7, 2016
  • Health: Students participated in the SOS program regarding depression and suicide. This program was conducted through Elyssa's Mission. Hwk: watch video on Drugs and Medicines and quiz on Monday, November 14th.
  • PE: We continued our basketball unit by scrimmaging each other.

Week of October 31, 2016
  • Health: Students took a pre-assessment with Mrs. Larrea regarding the upcoming SOS presentation. After the pre-assessment, students took their Nutrition Unit test. Hwk: watch video on Drugs and Medicines and quiz on Monday, November 14th.
  • PE: We continued our basketball unit by scrimmaging each other.

Week of October 24, 2016
  • Health: We prepared ourselves for the upcoming Nutrition unit test by playing a review game on Kahoot.
  • PE: We continued our basketball unit by scrimmaging each other.

Week of October 17, 2016
  • Health: Took a quiz on recognizing the different eating disorders. Afterwards, students completed a venn diagram between anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. To also prepare us for our upcoming unit test, students were given a study guide to complete.
  • PE: Students started our new unit, which is basketball. Students were split up into 8 different teams and scrimmaged each other.


Week of October 10, 2016
  • Health: We did not have Health class due to no school. Hwk: finish classwork on analyzing 3 commercials, video Recognizing Eating Disorders, and quiz
  • PE: We did not have PE class due to the Holy Fire retreat.

Week of October 3, 2016
  • Health: Students analyzed the different ways companies try to lure consumers to purchase their equipment. Students were asked to find 3 different commercials and analyze them. Hwk: finish classwork on analyzing 3 commercials, video Recognizing Eating Disorders, and quiz
  • PE: Today was our final day for our bags and volleyball unit, and we played regulation games.

Week of September 26, 2016
  • Health: Students were asked to rank 7 common drinks from the most sugar to the least amount of sugar. We then did an experiment by dissecting the food labels and analyzing the amount of sugar that is in each drink. Afterwards, we looked into Eat This Not That on common food chains and what is the healthier option to choose from. Homework: Eat This Not That (shared when complete), Sports Drink vs. Water - read 3 articles and answers questions on purple sheet, watch Influences of Food - Ads, quiz
  • PE: We continued our bags and volleyball unit by playing regulation games.

Week of September 19, 2016
  • Health: Students took a quiz on how to analyze label and improving our dietary habits. Afterwards, students had class time to read and answer questions regarding pink slime that is used in fast food companies. Students also received a packet that further analyzed how to read food labels. Hwk: watch video and rate the drinks from most amount of sugar to least amount of sugar. The Low Down on Sugar
  • PE: We did not have PE class this week due to professional development and Oktoberfest.

Week of September 12, 2016
  • Health: Students took a quiz on the video from last week, and completed a classroom assignment to further their understanding on the 6 major nutrients. Hwk: watch video and quiz on Analyzing Food Labels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NthLIbHBaxI
  • PE: We continued our bags and volleyball unit by playing regulation games.

Week of September 4, 2016
  • Health: We did not have Health class this week due to Labor Day weekend. Hwk: watch video and quiz on Following the Dietary Guidelines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9aGp7wfXcA
  • PE: We started our bags unit and volleyball unit. Half the students were designated to play bags while the other half of class participated in a volleyball game. Half way through the class they swapped to allow each student enough time to play each activity.

Week of August 30, 2016
  • Health: Today was the first day of Health class and students were told the expectations and units that we are going to cover in the next trimester and a half. The layout of Health class will be different from the past as we will be approaching Health in a flipped classroom approach. Students every week can find a youtube link on this page that will have a powerpoint presentation with a voice over. Students are expected to watch this video every week and takes notes as they see fit. When they come into class every Monday, students will take a quiz on that material and work on an assignment related to the material that was discussed in the video. To start our Nutrition unit, I had students watch various clips from the movie Super Size Me. This is about a man who decided to go on an McDonald's diet for 30 days straight, and all of his meals must come from McDonalds.
  • PE: Our first unit in PE, which will last roughly 6 classes, is volleyball. To prepare us for the volleyball unit, students played a game called Newcomb. In Newcomb, similar skills are used in this game as well as in volleyball, which include: teamwork, calling the ball, trust in teammates, etc.
